Quiz 65: Weight and rotation
You know, the earth is rotating around its axis.

Well, this makes us lighter due to centrifugal acceleration.

Having said that, the question is: how much would 1Kg weights (in the equator area) if the earth stops rotating?

GO!

PS: Consider the earth radius 6371Km.

At the equator, the speed is:
v=circumference/24h=6371x2pi/24h=463m/sec

Therefore, the centrifugal acceleration is:
ac=v^2/r=0.0337m/s2

The weight linked to this ac is 0.0337Kg.

Therefore, if the earth stops rotating (don't do it please!) the weight will become 1.0337Kg, because the centrifugal force will disappear.

Did you like it?

Congratulations again to Red Man!
Solution 1.0337Kg
